User Emotions

Understanding the profound impact of emotions on the journey to recovery, Agorà delves into the emotional fabric of victims in the aftermath of natural disasters. From the initial apprehension and isolation, we aim to guide victims towards a transformative emotional experience within the campsite. By fostering a sense of safety, trust, and collective optimism through shared activities, Agorà seeks to replace fear with hope, loneliness with community, and uncertainty with resilience. Our mission is to create an emotional tapestry that not only supports victims in the present but also lays the foundation for a more hopeful and resilient future.

How it works

Problem statement

Each year millions of people are displaced from their homes into temporary camps waiting for their lives for be restored. These camps leave victims with a sense of hopelessness.

Innovation framework

Agorá is a phygital system uniting victims and volunteers of natural disasters.
Through skill-based initiatives, it builds community resilience, fostering collaboration, and aiding in overcoming the trauma of displacement.

How is the system structured?

Totem & App

Totems and the corresponding mobile application share identical features, allowing users to discover, book, propose initiatives or ask for help. Strategically positioned throughout the campsite, totems not only facilitates access to our service for those without a smartphone but also serves as designated gathering spots where people will meet to start their initiatives.

Tokens & Check-in

Every user can request a unique ID token, which serves as a personal identifier for those without access to a smartphone. This token enables users to seamlessly interact with the totem, functioning as a digital key to book, propose or check-in in initiatives.

Initiatives

Users are encouraged to contribute to the campsite’s collective recovery by posting and engaging in initiatives, which are activities reflecting the community’s needs and priorities. These initiatives leverage the personal skills of the campsite residents, allowing them to support each other in meaningful ways.

System map

As a phygital service, Agorà, collaborates with Protezione Civile Nazionale to assess the risks associated with proposed victim activities. The data, encompassing both activities and user profiles, is efficiently managed through a dedicated server. Users interact with the service through either smartphones or conveniently placed kiosks in the field.

When exclusively using a kiosk, individuals utilize the token provided during onboarding for authentication. Smartphone users, aside from checking in to activities, can seamlessly access all Agorà features without requiring a visit to a kiosk. When starting a proposed activity, any user must approach the kiosk as a way to fostering genuine connections within the community.

User Journey Map

During the initial approach to the service, the user encounters some pain points that may lead to the interruption of use or added frustration, in addition to that caused by the precarious situation they are in. Having very simple communication and a facilitated and guided onboarding system has proven to be the best ways to reduce the risk of bottlenecks in the initial usage phase. The experience generated through the UI for Smartphone and Kiosk reduces the likelihood of making the service difficult to understand for individuals with technology difficulties. As the service encourages people to gather and collaborate in person, the use of a totem encourages users to use common spaces and engage in dialogue and collaboration.
